News stories

News is any timely information that interests a number of people. Anything that makes people talk about it is known as news.

News story is useful to develop farmers interest, to inform people about new information, to create favourable attitude and to report other extension activities like demonstrations, meetings etc.

The six keys in news are: 1. Timeliness 2. Nearness 3. Consequence 4. Promisence 5. Human interest ad 6. News paper policy.

There are four popular types of news stories

Writing News stories

Body

Writing of news stories follows the principle of inverted pyramid form. All the information about the story/article are collected and are arranged in the order of priority. The most important point will be given at the top. The body is then written by giving major details and minor details.

The body should consist of different paragraphs with small sub titles and a few sentences. A photograph or a drawing can be included to make the news more comprehensible.

Lead

It is the abstract or condensed form of the body. It should be confined to the facts for telling the reader the story's content. It must be in a few sentences.

Title

The headline or title should be written attractively, briefly and clearly so that the attention of the reader is drawn to the article. It should be in one line with a very few words.
