Characteristics of post larvae of Penaeus merguiensis

Objective : To familiarize with the identification characters of early postlarvae of  Penaeus merguiensis

Procedure

 The points given below are pertaining to Paneaus indicus.  They can be followed  to identify the postlarval stages of Penaeus merguiensis.

  • Rostrum slender and elongated as in P.indicus
  • Basal region of rostrum not elevated.
  • 4-5 dorsal rostral spines.
  • Telson and half the distal end of the uropod carriers chromatophores.
  • Significance:

Identification of different postlarval stages is of much importance in  postlarval production and management.
