Neutrophils, Eosinophils and Lymphocytes

NEUTROPHILS, EOSINOPHILS AND LYMPHOCYTES

Neutrophils-Intact and degenerate

Neutrophils

Note the multilobed nucleus (3 or more lobes). Fine neutrophilic granules in cytoplasm – occurring in large numbers in acute inflammation.

Eosinophils

Eosinophils

Note the bilobed character of the nucleus and the eosinophilic granules in the cytoplasm; seen in parasitic and allergic conditions.

Lymphocyte

Lymphocytes

Note the dense nucleus almost completely filling the entire cells leaving a thin rim of basophilic cytoplasm – seen in large number in chronic inflammation and lymphoid leukaemia.
