DRY HEAT

• Red heat – inoculating loops. The loop should be held almost vertically in the busen flame till it becomes red hot.

Hot air oven

• This method is used for glass wares and stainless steel items. It can also be used to sterilize dry materials in dry containers, powders, oils and greases.
• Dry heat sterilization is done in hot air oven. The materials are exposed to 160C for one hour.
• The mouth of the glass ware and stainless steel items are covered with aluminum foil to prevent from being recontaminated when cooled to room temperature.
