  • Mandibles bite horizontally
  • Mandibles bite vertically
  • Antennae concealed in antennal grooves in ventral sides of the head
  • They may not be readily seen
  • Antennae long, filiform
  • visible at the sides of the head (Not concealed in grooves)
  • Maxillary palp present
  • Maxillary palps absent
  • Meso and meta thorax usually
  • Examples: Menopon gallinae, Menacanthus stramineus, Heterodoxus spiniger
  • Examples: Lipeurus tropicalis, Damalinia ovis
