Sub-unit vaccines

SUB-UNIT VACCINES

  • Does not contain whole virus, only part of virion that acts as antigen stimulant

Types

  • Purified viral antigens
  • Cloned viral proteins produced in eukaryotic or prokaryotic cells by recombinants technology
  • Synthetic viral peptide
    • More modern subunit vaccines are made by genetic engineering when the viral gene is inserted into E.coli. or baculovirus and expressed as protein which is then adjuvanted with QuillA or alhydrogel.
