Pathogenic organisms to poultry cause morbidity and mortality. Management methods to reduce the spread of poultry pathogens include:

  • Establishing sound biosecurity protocols
  • Control of farm animals, equipment, personnel and wild or domestic animals entering the farm premises
  • Preventing the interaction of wild birds with feed
  • Vehicles that go from farm to farm should be subject to special precautions of disinfection
  • Sanitize bird housing areas
  • Where possible establish all-in-all-out systems with only one age group
  • Workers on multiple age bird farms should always work with the youngest birds first before moving on to the older birds
