General Information

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Precipitation and agglutination reactions are similar except in that for precipitation reaction antigen must be in soluble form.
  • The precipitation reaction is highly specific and very sensitive for the detection of antigen being capable of demonstrating antigens in dilutions of 1:100,000 to 1: 1,000,000 or more.
  • The essential ingredients for precipitation test are soluble antigen (precipitinogen), antibody (precipitin) and an electrolyte (normal saline).
