TYPES OF PRESCRIPTION

Precompounded prescription

  • Precompounded prescription is one in which the prescriber calls for drugs that are available in a particular dosage form and the pharmacist does not make any alteration in the dosage form but dispense the drug as such.

Compounded prescription

  • These are prescription in which the prescriber calls for certain drugs in certain quantities and instructs the pharmacist to compound a particular dosage form and dispense it.

Lazyman’s prescription

  • The method of writing one prescription by putting down a single dose of ingredient and directing the pharmacist to send a certain number of such doses is known as lazyman’s prescription.

Shotgun prescription

  • These are prescriptions in which a number of substances are prescribed and these substances do not have any essential therapeutic affinity. It is the result of an ignorant attempt to hit the trouble, no matter what may be its nature.
