Using Pillar balance

USING PILLAR BALANCE

  • The pillar balance consists of two pans.
  • Before placing any weight, it is to be ensured that the pans are of equal weight in empty position, as shown by the central position of the needle in pressed position.
  • Two papers of equal size are placed in either pan.
  • The standard weight is always placed on the left pan.
  • On the right pan, keep adding the chemical to be weighed and test the equality of weights by pressing the centre lever and looking for centre position of the needle.
  • Stop addition of chemical when the needle shows central position and does not sway to one side, when the lever is pressed.
  • The weighed chemical can be transferred for further preparation.
