Management of artificial diets

MANAGEMENT OF ARTIFICIAL DIETS

AIM : To understand the various artificial diets, their preparation and use in fish culture.

  • In extensive fish culture systems, where the fishes are stocked at a very low density, the nutritional requirements of fish are met by the natural food like plankton that are available in the pond system. Intensive fish culture practices like pond and water recirculation system involves higher stocking densities and intensive feeding. Hence, the use of artificial diets to meet their nutritional demands for growth and maturation is essential.
  • Different types of artificial diet are being used for fish culture. Feeds are classified based on their moisture content, method of preparation etc.,
