Feeding rate

FEEDING RATE

  • The quantity of feed to be given to fishes in a pond or any fish culture system should normally be based on a percentage of the biomass present (total weight of animals). Thus, if a pond contains 10,000 fish weighing 10 g on an average and the recommended feeding rate is stated to be 7% per day, the amount of feed to be given  is: (10,000 x 10x 7) /100= 7,000g (7 kg) per day
  • The ratio of weight of feed fed per day to animal weight (biomass) is high at the start of the growing period and lower towards the time when the animals reach marketable size.
