TREATMENT

Treatment- Surgical

• Aged dogs above 6 years - pan hystrectomy

Medical

• Dogs less than 6 years - if breeding potential is to be preserved,
• PGF2alpha (Natural ) - 0.01 mg to 0.02mg /kg body weight BID for 7 - 10 days
• PGF2alpha (synthetic ) - 10 micrograms /kg body weight once daily for 7 - 10 days
• prostaglandin administration is accompanied by severe side effects like vomition, salivation,panting, diaorrhea and some times prostration. These side effects can be minimised by administration of atrophine sulphate @ 0.01mg/kg body weight prior to prostaglandin treatment.

Supportive theraphy

• Intra venous fluid - Ringer's lactate 150 ml/daily until recovery
• Antibiotics - Ciprofloxacin 10 mg/kg bw/daily for seven days
