Treatment
Conservative treatment

Restrict energy intake by reducing the feeding quantity to one time to reduce milk yield.

Restrict water intake during night hours to reduce edema.
-
Diuretic- Frusemide 2 mg /kg BW – orally twice daily to reduce edema – water restriction should not be done when diuretics are used.
-
Application of Elizabethan collar to prevent suckling.
-
Application of hot/ cold fomentation should be avoided
Rationale Treatment

Anti- prolactin drugs
-
Bromocryptine – 30 -100mg/kg BW. B.I.D for 5-7 days.

To prevent vomission the drug may be administered mixed in food.

Cabergoline – 5 μg/kg BW. BID for 5 days
-
Prevention – Ovarieo hysterectomy if the owner is not willing for breeding. Ovarieo hysterectomy should be done only in anestrum.
