Regional anatomy of ribs in the following animals

REGIONAL ANATOMY OF RIBS IN THE FOLLOWING ANIMALS

  1. Horses: 18 pairs: Spairs-sternals, 10 pairs-astemal. Up to the 10th length gradually increases and then decreases.
  2. Cattle : 13 pairs : 8 pairs sternals, 5 pairs asternal. Before 8th and beyond 10th rib, the length and breadth gradually diminish. First rib is short, last rib is curved.
  3. Sheep and Goats: 13 pairs : 8 pairs sternals, 5 pairs asternal. Before 8th and beyond 10th rib, the length and breadth gradually diminish. First rib is short, last rib is curved.
  4. Dogs: 13 pairs: 9 pairs sternals, 4 pairs-asternal. Last rib is usually float. Head of the last 2-3 ribs articulate with only one vertebrae.
