REGIONAL ANATOMY OF THE URINARY SYSTEM

Horses

Left kidney: Lies under the coverage of last rib and transverse process of 1st, 2nd, 3rd lumbar vertebrae.

Right kidney: Last 3 ribs and transverse process of first lumbar vertebrae.

Bladder: lies on the anterior part of the floor of pelvis, when empty. Reaches abdominal floor when filled with urine.
Cattle

Left kidney: Lies under the coverage of 3rd, 4th, 5th lumbar vertebrae, but varying in position depends on rumen.

Right kidney: Lies between last rib and transverse process of 1st, 2nd and 3rd lumbar vertebrae.

Bladder: Below the uterus.
Sheep and Goats

Left kidney: Lies under the coverage of 3rd, 4th, 5th lumbar vertebrae, but varying in position depends on rumen.

Right kidney: Lies between last rib and transverse process of 1st, 2nd and 3rd lumbar vertebrae.

Bladder: Below the uterus.
Dogs

Left kidney: Loosely attached. Lies under the transverse process of 2rd, 3rd, 4th lumbar vertebrae. But anterior lobe lies below the 1st lumbar vertebrae.

Right kidney: Lies under the coverage of the 1st and 3rd lumbar vertebrae.

Bladder: empty: pelvic position. Full: level of umblilcus.
