Approaching a cat in a cage

APPROACHING A CAT IN A CAGE

  • When a cat is approached, it quickly gives evidence as to whether or not it is friendly.
  • An unfriendly cat hisses and spits at the person nearing the cage.
  • If closer contact is attempted, the cat will strike out wit a paw or attempt to bit an encroaching hand.
  • In such situation, the handler should take steps to divert the attention of cat while capturing.
  • A cat permitted to come out of a cage into a strange surrounding is usually intimidated and seldom exhibits hostile behavior.
  • Often, if such a cat is approached in a calm manner, restraint will not provoke undesirable behavior.
