Qualitative test for nitrate in a sample

QUALITATIVE TEST FOR NITRATE IN  SAMPLE

Materials and Chemicals

• Copper turnings
• Concentrated sulphuric acid 
• Test tube

Procedure

• Take one ml of sample in a test tube .
• Add few pieces of copper turnings into test tube.
• Add concentrated sulphuric acid by the sides of the tube. 

Inference

• Development of brown fumes indicative of nitrate in the sasmple.
