Walking Foot Feed or Puller Feed

APPAREL MANUFACTURING – II 3(3+0)

Lesson 48 : Feed Mechanism

Walking Foot Feed or Puller Feed

It is a way of providing positive control of all the plies of fabric as they leave another feeding mechanism such as a drop feed. This feed system can be a retro fit addition to a sewing machine or may be built in by the machine manufacturer, depending on the machine type. Two rollers exert a pulling motion on the fabric behind the presser foot or a short distance behind it. Both rollers may be driven or the top roller only may be driven while lower one is idle. It is particularly useful in multi-needle stitching of parts such as waistbands. Built in close coupled rear puller feed devices are syncronised to the main feeding system.
