Machine Factors Controlling Sewing Quality

Sewing quality specifications depends on the flexibility of an industrial sewing machine and is measured by the range of it operations it can perform. The variety of fabric contact parts and intermediate mechanical links made for the machine largely determine the flexibility. Since most sewing machines employ drop oscillation feeds regardless of stitch or bed type, the four main fabric- contact parts are-

  1. Needles
  2. Feed dogs
  3. Presser foot
  4. Throat plate

Sewing quality is controlled by the following aspects of fabric contact parts:

  1. Structure and size
  2. Action cycle
  3. Adjustment
  4. Condition

The correction action and adjustment and condition are controlled by the mechanical links to which they are connected either directly or indirectly.
