Steam Presses

A steam press consists of a static buck and a head of complementary shape, which closes on to it, thus sandwiching the garment to be pressed. They can be used for either under pressing or top pressing.

Under Pressing: Basically this type of equipment is either general or special purpose.

  1. General: This can be a unit consisting of a rectangular table with a built – in pressing area or it can be shaped like a domestic ironing board. It is equipped with an iron and connected to a central or independent stem and vacuum supply. Some of these are also fitted with a shaped form mounted on a swivel arm at the back of the table, which can be pulled into position when required. The operator usually works in a standing controlled by foot pedals.

  2. Special Purpose: A part from hand iron operations there are many under pressing operations performed on a machine e.g. edge pressing before top stitching or simultaneously pressing the shoulders and fusing the shoulder pads into position.
