Lesson 38 : Embroidery Machines

Multihead Embroidery Machines

Multihead embroidery machines are similar to single-head machines except that they may contain 4 to 23 heads operated by a common drive shaft or belt. The heads are controlled by a punched tape or computer disk that programs needle action and stitch formatting. With (video) multihead machines, garments may be individually framed and inserted horizontally under each head. Each head may utilize 1 to 6 needles in stitching a design & produce deigns up to 6 colours. The number of heads per machine is limited by machine size & area to be stitched.

Garment manufacturers select machine types that best suit product lines and size of embroidery most commonly used. Some manufacturers may own more than one type to give them more flexibility in size of designs. Trapunto designs are more closely stitched with thin needled and cording feed on these multi head embroidery machines.
