Standards for Basal Metabolism

Basal metabolism is most closely related to the body surface area and less directly related to the weight of the individual. The body surface area can be calculated according to the formula of DuBois and DuBois given below:

A=W0.425* H0.725*71.84

Where A= body surface area in square centimeters.
H = height in centimeters
W =weight in kilograms
