Lesson 6: Yarn Size And Twist

Direction of twist

There are two direction named as S- twist and Z- twist. When a yarn is held in a vertical position if the spirals conform to the direction of slope of the central portion of the letter "S," it is called as S-twist. If the spirals conform to the slope of the central portion of the letter "Z," It is called Z-twist. The majority of single yarns is spun with the twist in the Z direction and is a standard twist used for weaving yarns.
