Lesson 12: Production

Video Tapes

  • Always carry video tapes in their cases
  • Protect video tapes from excessive heat and humidity, or cold, dust, smoke, and dirt
  • Always store tapes vertically like books on a rack.
  • Record colour bars for 20 seconds and blank (black) signal for 10 seconds on every fresh tape.
  • Avoid time code breaks on video tape like plague. They can prove to be very taxing during editing.
  • Once a tape is exhausted, label the tape and give it a number. For example, the first tape could be labelled- TAPE 01, Health Minister Rosaiah's interview, cutaways, 29 April 2006.
  • Once a tape is exhausted, move the recording tab to 'safe' mode to avoid accidental recording.
