Levels of objectives

PROGRAMME PLANNING, IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION 2(1+1)

Levels of objectives

Objectives are classified into three different levels based on specificity.

  • Objectives should be clearly stated
  • Objectives should be achievable considering availability of resources
  • The objectives should be such that they can be evaluated and evidences of accomplishments can be identified
  • Objectives should be developmental and lead to expansion on the basis of interest and satisfaction of people.
  1. Fundamental objectives: There are the objectives set for society and are found in the constitution of the country. e.g. the fundamental rights of citizens, good life, better citizenship, democracy etc.

  2. General objectives: They are more specific than fundamental objectives and are found in the statements of policies and purposes of the organization.
    e.g
. providing better recreational and housing facilities to the rural people.

  3. Working objectives: are the specific objects to be achieved. These may be stated on the basis of extension worker’s and people’s view point. This involves a perfect agreement between the needs of rural people and what extension workers think they ought to have. e.g. to increase the wheat yield per acre by using improved varieties, quality seeds and plant protection measures etc., involves a perfect harmony among them.
