Pulsation and its ratio and rate

PULSATION

  • One pulsation is defined as one opening and one closing of the liner or the combination of one milking and one rest phase.

Pulsation ratio

  • It is the time ratio between milking and resting phases of pulsation cycle. Thus it is ratio of time when vacuum and atmospheric pressures are admitted to the number of cycles of alternating negative and atmos pheric pressure which is usually set around 48 to 72 cycles per minute.
  • The pulsation ratio usually varies from 1 : 1 to 2.5 : 1.

Pulsation rate

  • The pulsation rate refers to the number of pulsations per minute. It is frequency of pulsation cycle per minute.
