Pruning and training

  • Initially, the terminal bud is allowed to grow to a height of 1 m. After attaining this height, it is cut off to encourage basal branching. This will maintain the plant in a bushy state so as to facilitate the harvesting and other operations. In total, 5-6 branches are maintained per bush. Branches which grow tall in a vertical fashion have to be removed so that it will not become a tree. Ten to twelve months after planting, the first harvest begins.
