Lesson 24 : Thiamine (Vitamin B1)

Introduction

Thiamine functions as the coenzyme thiamin pyrophosphate (TPP) in the metabolism of carbohydrate and in conduction of nerve impulses.

Absorption and storage

Thiamine is readily absorbed from the small intestines. Thiamine administered in excess is not stored in the tissues. A part of it is excreted in urine and some is destroyed.
