Introduction

Calcium is 1.5-2 % of body weight. About 99 per cent of the calcium is present in the skeleton and found in the bones and teeth and the remainder one per cent is used for the contraction of muscles, liver, heart function, enzyme activity and blood clotting. One percent of calcium in the body is found in the soft tissues. The body of the infant at birth contains about 27.5 g. of calcium while the adult body contains about 1000 to 1600g.
