Physiological Functions

The different functions of folic acid in the body are:

  • It is essential for the production and maturation of red blood cells.
  • It aids in the synthesis of DNA (which controls heredity and is used to guide the cell in its daily activities).
  • It helps in tissue growth and cell function.
  • It works with vitamin B12 and ascorbic acid and helps the body to digest and utilize proteins by stimulating the formation of digestive enzymes.
