Definitions

Oogenesis: is process of synthesis of ovum in the ovaries.

Ovulation: is process of shedding of ovum from ovary into oviduct.

Luteolysis: is degeneration of corpus luteum.

Parturition: is act of expulsion of fetus through birth canal after completion of gestation length.

Fertilization: is union of male and female gametes.

Implantation: is stage at which developing embryo is attached to uterus during pregnancy.

Oogenesis: is production of haploid ovum from diploid oogonia cells in ovaries.

Pregnancy or gestation: is the period during which the fetus remains in the mother’s uterus. Usually it extends from fertilization till normal delivery of young one.

Castration: is removal of gonads by surgical procedure. Castrated individuals do not get sex hormones and their reproductive organs remains child like and non functional even after attaining adulthood.
