Testing of intelligence

Intelligence tests are conducted for the purpose of identifying the extent to which students demonstrate normal intellectual abilities. The first intelligence test was developed by Alfred Binet and later Wechsler developed tests for young children and school children called WPPSI & WISC. Different intelligence tests sample different behaviours.

The tasks to be assessed under cognitive functioning and their testing include (Scan & insert the pictures)

Discrimination

  • Given a set of stimuli the child is required to find the one that differs from others
  • The stimuli may be figures, symbols or words

Generalization

  • Given a stimulus, the child must select from among a number of response alternatives the one that is most like the stimulus.

Sequencing

  • Given a series, the child must identify the one that comes next in the series.

Analysis

  • The child must identify among alternative response items, the one that has some relationship to C as A does to B.

Induction

  • Child is presented with a series of examples and required to include governing principle.

General information

  • Child is required to answer specific factual questions

Vocabulary

  • Child is required to define words or point to pictures or illustrations of words read by the examiner.

Motor Behavior

  • Child may be required to walk, place some geometric forms in a recessed form board, copy geometric designs, trace paths through a maze and so on.

Comprehension

  • Three kinds of items are used to assess comprehension. Child should respond in-terms of understanding directions, printed material social customs or mores.
