Assessment of sensory activity

Poor academic performance is some times attributed to sensory activity. Difficulties are being distinguished from perception, discrimination and so on. It includes visual acuity and auditory acuity.

  • Visual acuity: it is sharpness of vision. Snellen’s wall chart is used to measure visual acuity. The child is required to read various lines on the chart from 20ft away. Snellen ‘E’ is commonly used to assess preschool students and those who are unable to read.
  • Auditory Acuity: It is sharpness of hearing. Instrument used to measure auditory acuity is audiometer. This device generates pure tones at different frequencies covering the major portion of the auditory range and at varying degrees of loudness.
