Assessment of language and Communication

For many children the cause of inadequate performance is attributed to make immature or deficient language development and functioning.

  1. Language Assessment

  2. Communication Assessment: Communication refers to the process of exchanging ideas, information and feelings between individuals. It is the basis on which children gain knowledge about the words around them, form social relationships and participate in every day activities. The two broad areas of communication assessment are
    • Receptive communication
    • Expressive communication

Communication assessment focuses on mode of communication that is speech. Social aspects of communication is known as pragmatics
Speech:
It refers auditory – articulatory code by which we represent spoken languages.
Pragmatics:
It refers to the use of language in a psychosocial context and includes the rules that govern how language is used for the purpose of communication.
