Case study

  • Case study or the clinical method, involves intensive investigation of a particular case.
  • It aims at studying everything about that case rather than something about everything.
  • It takes into account all the pertinent factories of the case.
  • It often includes the analysis of an individual’s life in the form of written records and diaries, health records, home environment, progress, social relations as well as the personal observations of the investigator.
  • A good case study should be a complete and accurate account of actual behavior.

The successful case study fall into three sections:

  1. Present: Problem, developmental status and family relations.
  2. Past: History of the problem, developmental history, family history.
  3. Future: Educational plans, predication of future development etc.

The outline of case history includes:

  • Identify data
  • Types of problems
  • Family history
  • Information by pediatrician, psychologist
  • School history
  • Physical and health history (prenatal, postnatal, developmental mile stones etc.)
