Lesson 11 : Types of planning

Management by objectives

It is contrasted with directional planning. Fulmer (1983) states that, Management By Objectives (MBO) is a system of setting up organizational objectives which then become the beginning, the middle, and the end of the operation. It is a participative system of managing in which managers look ahead for improvements, think strategically, set performance objective at the beginning of a time period, develop action and supporting plans and ensure accountability for results at the end of the time period.
