EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND DEVELOPMENT

Lesson 21: Outdoor play activities in ECE center

Promotes emotional growth- it offers opportunities to work out conflicts, it relieves pressures and tensions as it has absorbing and soothing effect.

Stimulates social play- child learns sharing equipment and how to wait for a turn.

Develops physical coordination- eye hand coordination, fine motor control in learning, for Ex. to pour, squeeze and balance.

Develops cognitive or intellectual concepts- problem solving with tubes, sieves, pipes; experimenting with measurements, float and sink properties, volume, quantity, fractions, weight, comparisons, numbers, temperature.

Promotes language development- learn new words and play with words of alliteration (swish, swirl, splish, splash).
