Techniques of collecting information

The following methods are commonly used to collect the information regarding the children of ECE center

  1. Observation: It is found to be one of the most useful methods for collecting the information regarding young children. It is of two types – participant and non participant.

    1. Participant observation is a very effective method. It involves observing children simultaneously along with working with them.

    2. The non-participant observation technique requires the observer to be a passive on looker. The teacher has to opt for a participant observation as it is difficult for her to play the role of a passive on looker.

  2. Interview: It is another method by which the teacher collects the required information about children. At the time of registration itself. She collects particulars of information about child – age, address, parental education, occupation and income of the family. After the factual details regarding the child and the family are collected the teacher has to make home visits to know the family/home environment of the child.

  3. Information given by the child: Sometimes children supply information to the teachers during free conversation period. It helps teacher to assess the child’s behaviour in a better way.
