In selection of equipment

Equipment is most essential for running an ECE programme effectively. The teacher needs a variety of equipment to provide children with challenging and interesting learning experiences.

The type of equipment used depends on the objectives and philosophy of the centers:

• Montessori approach – special equipment.
  
• A Child Development oriented curriculum- needs equipment which can develop muscular co-ordination, social skills, language, creativity, imagination and cognitive abilities.

Hence, it is necessary that the teacher takes utmost care in selecting the equipment.

Points to Remember in Selection of equipment

1. The number of children and age level of children.
   
2. The equipment should be durable and sturdy.
   
3. Should withstand the weather conditions.
   
4. Should be multipurpose and more than one child should be able to use it at a time.
5. Easily assembled and can create new things.
   
6. Inexpensive and safe to use.
   
7. Easily repairable and can be handled by child.
   
8. Educative and informative
   
9. Culture based.
   
10. Should be based on the type of preschool.
    
11. Should be firmly fixed to avoid hazards.
