Physical Set-Up

Every nursery must provide a minimum space with proper light, ventilation, air, sanitation, temperature etc. The space per child in India may be fixed according to the resources available but it is very necessary to have an outdoor play centre attached to a day-nursery. There should be proper space for toilet facilities, sanitation, drinking water and food preparation which should be subject to inspection by the local authorities. A day nursery centre for normal children should not be located in a hospital or a maternity home or home for mentally and physically handicapped children. As far as possible the nursery should be located on the ground floor and in case it is located on the first floor, stairways should be wide low and gradually graded and should be provided with railing suitable for the use of the children.
