Lesson 48 : Development Schemes for Women

Scheme of Assistance for Construction/Expansion of Hostel Building for Working Women

Objectives:

1. To provide cheap and safe hostel accommodation to working women living out of their homes.
2. To provide accommodation to women who are being trained for employment, provided the training period does not exceed one year

Conditions:

1. Income of working women should not exceed Rs.16,000/- p.m. for admission in A-Class cities and Rs.15,000/-p.m. in other places.
2. She should leave the hostel within a period of 6 months of crossing this income ceiling.
3. 15% of seats for SC and 7.5% for ST in the hostel should be reserved.
4. The no. of women undergoing training should not be more than 30% of the total number of working women in the hostel.

Pattern of Assistance:
Assistance will be given for a) 50% of the cost of land and b) 75% of the cost of construction of the building or c) 50% of the cost for purchase of ready constructed building.
