Brick Flooring 3

Brick flooring is suitable for garages and garden paths. It is durable, economical, easy to construct as well as repair and is non-slippery. The bricks are arranged either in herring bone or diagonal or zig-zag bond.

Method of Construction

  • Sand or earth is filled in layers up to plinth level and consolidated well by adding water.
  • Over this, a base course of lean cements concrete of I: 4:8 or 1:5: 10 proportion is laid over the entire floor area. Slope if required for quick disposal of wash water may be provided in this base course.
  • When the base course in sufficiently hard, 12 mm thick cement mortar (I: 4 or 1: 1:5) is spread over the base course and the bricks either flat or on edge are laid in the desired bond. Bricks must be soaked in water prior to laying.
  • The joints should be made flush and the entire floor should be cured for 7 days.
