Brick flooring is suitable for garages and garden paths. It is durable, economical, easy to construct as well as repair and is non-slippery. The bricks are arranged either in herring bone or diagonal or zig-zag bond.
Method of Construction
Sand or earth is filled in layers up to plinth level and consolidated well by adding water.
Over this, a base course of lean cements concrete of I: 4:8 or 1:5: 10 proportion is laid over the entire floor area. Slope if required for quick disposal of wash water may be provided in this base course.
When the base course in sufficiently hard, 12 mm thick cementmortar (I: 4 or 1: 1:5) is spread over the base course and the bricks either flat or on edge are laid in the desired bond. Bricks must be soaked in water prior to laying.
The joints should be made flush and the entire floor should be cured for 7 days.
