Lesson 16: Water pollution

Control measures of water pollution

Water remains one of our primary resources, vital to our survival on earth.

  1. Waste material must be disposed off properly
  2. Daily household rubbish can be buried or thrown away neatly to be sent to special rubbish collecting areas.
  3. Industrial wastes should be treated before disposal, to make sure the substances are harmless.
  4. Stuff like glass, paper, plastic, and metal can be recycled
  5. Excess use of insecticides and chemical fertilizers should be avoided as far as possible.
  6. Knowledge on ways of preventing water pollution and its effect on human health should be spread more widely.
  7. Set up effluent treatment plants to treat waste water.
  8. Treated effluent can be reused for either gardening or cooling purposes.
  9. Toxic chemicals like cyanides and heavy metals can be degraded harmlessly by some bacteria.
