Point presser and pounding block

This is a pointed piece of wood attached to a clapper. This helps to press open any seam where a crisp, flat seam is desired. It can also be used to press open enclosed seams before turning them to the right side for a final press, such as a facing seam.

Pounding is a rhythmic movement, most frequently done in tailoring to flatten the edges. Pounding should be done with the work on a padded surface.
