Building Bye – Laws

Building bye-laws are defined as series of standards and specifications designed to establish minimum safeguards in the erection and construction of building to protect human beings from fire and other hazards and safety of the public.

These bye-laws apply to the building activity such as -

  • Where a building is newly erected, the bye - laws shall apply to the design and construction of buildings.
  • Where the whole or any part of the building is removed, the bye-laws apply to all parts of Building whether removed or not.
  • Where the whole or any part of the building is demolished, the bye-laws apply to any remaining part and to the work involved in demolition.
  • Where a building is altered, the bye-laws apply to the whole building whether existing or new, except that the bye-laws.Apply only to part, if that part is completely self contained With respect to requirement of the bye-laws.
  • Where the occupancy of a building is changed the bye-laws apply to all parts of the building affected by the change.
