Lesson 12:Orthographic Drawings – Elevations

Introduction

The elevation drawings are drawn after the floorplan is finalized. They are necessary to show the dimensions and information that cannot be shown on the floor plans. The elevation drawings show the interior / exterior finish materials and the architectural styling. It is possible to design many different architectural styles from the same floor plan. Each elevation should be labelled by comapss orintation and not to the property lines. Length and width dimensions are shown on floor plan while the height dimensions can be shown on the elevation drawings. Finish details of the exterior building materials to make the elevations attractive. Shading, rendering and landscaping may also be applied to the elevationa for a realistic appearance. These types of elevation drawings are referred to as presentation drawings and are not useful for the construction purpose.
