“Flat pattern design is a method of creating design patterns from a basic pattern which fits the dummy or individual figure, and is used as a basic for making other patterns.”
Pattern work consists changing the basic pattern to create new designs. Work is done on paper on a flat surface. Designer can cut and slash it and manipulate it in many ways to create new design. Alterations are done by modifying pattern in different ways for specific designs and this master pattern is used to final cutting of the garment.
Readymade patterns or commercial patterns of different styles and sizes are available in the market. These patterns contain all required markings, construction details like: stitch line, cut line, fabric type, notches etc. which makes it very easy to understand and work. The picture of final garment is printed on the top of the pattern envelop.
