The contraction of warp from the slasher length to the cloth length is called take up. Eg. If cut length / tape length on the slasher is 40 yards and length of woven cloth is 38 yards then the take up of warp is equal to :
40-38 -------- X 100 = 5 per cent 40
Regain:
This is generally estimated on the cloth. In grey cloth, a measured length of fabric is cut. A warp is raveled out from the cut fabric and straightened without stretching it and measured. From this measure the regain is calculated. Eg. If a cloth is cut to 10 cms length and length of straightened warp is measured to be 10.8 cms, then the regain is calculated as:
Regain =(10.8-10)/10 X 100 = 8 percent
Cut length or tape length:
The length of warp required to weave a definite length of cloth is called the cut length or tape length. Tape length = required length of cloth + uptake = required length of cloth X 100 + percent of regain of warp
