Allowances for selvedge

Fundamentals of Textile Design 3(2+1)

Lesson 7: Yarn calculations

Allowances for selvedge

No separate calculation is required for allowances at the selvedges when the same type of yarn as that of body is used in them as selvedges contain 2 ends per heald. The example given below will help in calculating this:

Eg. A cloth with 30 inches wide having ¼ inch of selvedge on each side, drawn 4 ends per dent in a reed will be calculated as a cloth of
30 + 2x ¼ = 30 ½ inches wide
